"Those mountains you are carrying, you were only supposed to climb." - Najwa Zebian
I only left home a week ago, but my body is already feeling really out of alignment. It doesn't help that I have not kept up with my practice over the last month and have taken a class nearly every day since I arrived in Silverton. (btw, if you are ever here... I recommend Body Theory). I am also getting used to working at a computer again, carrying a heavy backpack, and sleeping in a bed I am not used to.
This combination has led to some really grumpy shoulders and a stiff neck!
Tight shoulders can also be caused by an excess of stress in your life. We can learn to release tension through yoga movements, allowing weight to be lifted from our shoulders.
I created a video today to walk you through some gentle stretches for the upper body. We will be rolling, wiggling, reaching, and moving in a way that helps drop some of the heavy weight off our shoulders. As we tend to carry a ton of stress up there, let's try and breathe through the release of the cooped up energies there.
As we focus on opening the chest and heart, I encourage you to keep the idea of compassion in your mind throughout this practice. When negative thoughts about yourself or others come to mind, let them go without judgment and focus instead on love.
I would love to know what you think. Please feel free to comment below or on my YouTube channel. I would love suggestions for other videos you would like to see.
Struggling with a sore back? I have the yoga video for you >
