Meet Alyshea Shaw, Founder of Spirit Tribe Studio

I am feeling incredibly blessed to be interviewing so many inspirational women over the last month. This week, I am thrilled to introduce you to one of my former students, Alyshea Shaw. Alyshea shares her yoga journey, her path to self-love, and her passion for femininity.  She is one of our fabulous guest teachers on the Remote Yogi Tribe and I am honored to know that she is currently teaching my old classes in Maricopa, AZ.

Alyshea started her journey with yoga in January 2013, after the unexpected loss of her best friend. She had done some yoga here and there in the years prior, but it wasn’t until she was faced with grief and despair that she really fell in love with yoga as a tool for healing. She found that yoga allowed her to explore, process, and release her emotions in a way unlike anything else she had experienced. She knew almost immediately that she wanted to get her teaching certification, but for some reason, couldn’t bring herself to do it until more than 4 years later.

In 2016, she was on the verge of a divorce and experiencing extreme personal burnout, after being a stay at home mom during the day and waitressing graveyard shift at a casino at night. Faced with the choice to sink or swim, she made the decision to go to India for a month and follow her dreams. It was there that her entire life completely changed. While in India she had mental, physical, and emotional breakthroughs in pranayama (yogic breathing), meditation, and ashtanga yoga.

Since returning from India, she teaches at a local studio and has created an online yoga studio offering a full schedule of live streaming classes as well. She has become passionate about guiding other women on their journey of rediscovering themselves after marriage and having kids. She is an advocate for self love, compassion, vulnerability, and teaching women to live in harmony with their true cyclic nature.

On Yoga:

“Looking back, there were so many times when yoga tried to enter my life and I wasn’t really ready for it.”

“I think a lot of the time it is some form of trauma or painful experience that really brings people to yoga and then gets you to really understand just how healing it can be.”

On going to India:

“Oh, this! This is what it is about... Once you really explore all of the eight limbs of yoga and branch out, it just becomes transformative.”

On self-care, self-love, and motherhood

“Learning how grieve… and learn how to process emotions in a healthy way and come to a place where I truly fault deserving of love. I started doing guided meditations on learning to accept love.”

‘I have to show my kids to love themselves. I can’t just tell them to do it. I have to be the example”

"You cannot serve from an empty vessel." - Eleanor Brownn

“Getting up an having a morning routine is essential!”

"When you feel bad, just be okay with that. That’s ok. It doesn’t say anything about you and your self worth at all. It is totally 100% the way we were designed."

On womanhood and periods: “My daughters will not feel any shame or guilt about something that is 100% natural.”

"We want to feel good for ourselves, not anybody else. It’s not about anybody else, because that’s not real at the end of the day… You can’t change who you are for somebody else. You have to be who you truly are. That’s where the transformation happens. That’s where it is real.”

"Being authentic is just being true to yourself and that’s really what this whole life is about."
